Bhubaneswar the capital of Odisha, popularly known as the ‘temple city’ is a city of myriad sights and colours. Few cities in India can rival it in terms of variety of natural landscape as well as its historic grandeur. The city with an abundance of in-city greenery and with the Chandaka reserve forest on the fringes is one of the cleanest and greenest cities of India.

The temples of Bhubaneswar are unparalleled in sheer number and in their superb craftsmanship. With the architectural legacy of the Kalinga Dyansty Bhubaneswar boasts of hundreds of temples including Lingaraj, Mukteswar, Rajarani, Brahmeswar, Vaital, etc. dating from 6th Century AD to 13th Century AD. Apart from remarkably sculptured temples the Jain caves of Khandagiri and Udayagiri, Nandankanan Zoological Park, the peace pagoda ‘Dhauli’ on the banks of river Daya attract visitors from all over the world. Historically, Odisha has been at the forefront of education and research. The ruins of a major ancient university, Puspagiri is also located in Odisha. Scholars from faraway lands, such as Greece, Persia and China used to study philosophy, astronomy, mathematics and science at this famed university. Bhubaneswar is also famous for its culinary delight. Being a coastal city the accent is on marine food of all kinds, especially prawns, Lobsters and crabs brought in from the Chilika Lake and the sweetest Rasogola of Salepur, Jhilli of Nimapara and Chennapoda of Nayagarh has made Bhubaneswar a paradise for the food lovers. Bhubaneswar is well connected by air, rail and road to the rest of India. The Biju Patnaik Airport located in the heart of the city connects to all the major destination of the country. Being the zonal headquarters of East Coast Railways, Bhubaneswar has remained an important station with several trains starting from here connecting it to almost every other city of India. Besides, all south bound trains from Kolkata passed through Bhubaneswar. With National Highway No. 5 running through the city, Bhubaneswar can be reached from any place between Kolkata and Chennai.
